  1. Reporting a bug against openoffice.org
  2. --------------------------------------
  3. I) Make sure it's a OOo bug after all: #398923 and its friends for example
  4.    are not.
  5.    Set the Version: header right. If you found a bug in a specific version,
  6.    set that as version:, even if you in the meanwhile upgraded. If you are on
  7.    an up-to-date version and tried old versions and they have the bug, too, set
  8.    the Version: header to the earliest version you found it in (of course, if versions
  9.    inbetween don't have the bug use the version in which it reappeared and sustained to
  10.    the current version)

  12. II) Check on the BTS (http://bugs.debian.org/src:openoffice.org) whether the
  13.    bug already is reported. Do *NOT* report a new one then. For judging whether
  14.    it's already reported, read *ALL* the bugs, think, try and use common sense.

  16. III) If you have crashes with a document, try another one. If only that or
  17.     similar docs causes problems please attach THIS (or a similar type one
  18.     causing it). Otherwise, don't file a bug, we can't look at it anyway.

  20. IV) Please attach a backtrace if possible (see
  21.     http://wiki.debian.org/OpenOffice#debug). Install openoffice.org-dbg
  22.     before doing this (and the packages it Recommends).

  24.     Please also read /usr/share/doc/openoffice.org-common/README.gz for common
  25.     problems ("Problems During Program Startup")
  26.     If you have NFS/Samba/... file locking problems (i.e. files opened
  27.     read-only when they should be read-write), also see the "File Locking"
  28.     section in above file.

  30. V) If the bug is also in the version you can get from www.openoffice.org, file
  31.    it there in the first place. If you really think this also should be a bug
  32.    in the Debian BTS (because it's (release-)critical or otherwise important)
  33.    please file a bug there too *BUT* note the issue number in the bug or mark it 
  34.    forwarded yourself if you can. Especially this is for feature requests.
  35.    If you tested other OOos and the bug is (not) in version foo from bar, mention
  36.    that, too.

  38. VI) Only report bugs on completely up-to-date systems. Don't file bugs on a
  39.     obsolete version and neither on sid/testing systems really old. If bugs
  40.     got fixed in sid, it doesn't make sense to file them anymore. (Exception
  41.     is security bugs or really critical bugs which should be get fixed in
  42.     stable.) When you think a dependency is missing/wrong/too lax please be *sure*
  43.     that this is the case before reporting it. Most times it isn't.
  44.     Use common sense and the bug severities for judging here. When you think you have
  45.     an up-to-date system, check whether you really have one.
  46.     (And do a dist-upgrade, try to reproduce the bug again).
  47.     Also don't report bugs on broken mix systems unless you are sure about the
  48.     dependencies/conflicts (see above).

  50. VII) Please give as much info as possible (installed OOo packages, installed 
  51.      extensions, "special" configs, additions, changes, whatever). Better too
  52.      much than too less. (See #396225 for example which was caused by an
  53.      unsupportable, non-free extension)
